Scouting Report 1.0 (Joseph Fafinski) — 04.27.2014
Simply put, Andrew Wiggins is a phenomenal athlete. He does it all—he’s excellent in transition, he can defend both the perimeter and in the block, and can score at an efficient rate. It’s hard to place the diaper dandy over Duke standout Jabari Parker, but what separates the former from the latter is his freakish athleticism and ability to defend. Wiggins has a vertical of 44 inches and his NBA ceiling nears the roof. Additionally, his rebounding is underrated.

His defensive toughness on the glass will translate well into the professional ranks. The main question surrounding the 6’8 small forward is his inability at times to create offense for his teammates. He averaged under two assists per game, a testimony to his sometimes head-scratching ball handling. He also needs to pull up less often. All in all, he’s hardly 19 years old and has time on his side to improve these “weaknesses”.

Really, what we’re looking at here is a star ready to blossom in the NBA in the right system. If he’s surrounded by passers, he could be something of the Vince Carter-mold—an All-Star who can score in an abundance of ways. I do, however, hope his work ethic doesn’t resemble that of Carter’s. I sincerely hope no one associated with the University of Missouri sees this. I may be expelled for waxing poetically over a KU product.
