Scouting Report 1.0 — 05.01.2014 (Nick Hutson)
This silky smooth lefty transfer from Mississippi State had a breakout year for the Duke Blue Devils. This guy scores the ball. An above average shooter, Hood shot a very impressive 42% behind the three-point arc and it doesn’t stop there. He also shot 80% from the foul line and scored 20+ points ten times. He isn’t just a one-way scorer either. He has the ability to take defenders one-on-one and has shown some above the rim ability as well. Jabari Parker often overshadowed Hood, and for good reason.
Make no mistake, a team will be getting a good |
all-around basketball player in Hood. Coach K is even quoted as saying that Hood was the best player in practice during his redshirt season in 2012-2013. It is important to note that Seth Curry and Mason Plumlee were on that squad. That type of glowing comment by Coach K only helps his chances with teams. While Hood can be lethal at times, he does also drift in and out of games when his shot isn’t falling. He also needs to bulk up if he wants to get significant playing time at the next level. A decent defender at Duke, Hood will probably benefit from showing more intensity

on that end of the court and his track record leaves me to believe he indeed will improve. All in all, I believe we are looking at a solid role player at the next level. Hood possesses size and a shooters touch that every team could use. With added strength, Hood could be a valuable asset to a team trying to improve shooting, like Chicago or even Houston and I believe he will get drafted somewhere between picks 20-25 with a chance to go higher with good workouts.
