Scouting Report 1.0 — 05.07.2014 (Joseph Fafinski)
If you have yet to see Dario Saric play, all you have to do is observe him in transition. His ball handling skills while operating up the court are incredible. Additionally, he rebounds very well. He’s not very athletic, sure, but that hasn’t hurt some of the bigs in the game who lack that same trait (see: Kevin Love, Boris Diaw, David Lee, Zach Randolph—he has the same rebounding gene all these guys, except maybe Diaw, were blessed with).

He can, like they stupidly said about Darko Milicic (and hopefully I don’t regret saying this), play the three and the four. Ultimately, he’s one of the best European prospects in the last decade. Some have even gone as far as calling Saric "the next big thing". Then again, I feel even stupid for evaluating him. It’s so hard to judge where he should go, but from watching tape there’s no denying his excellence in transation, his ability to distribute, and his skills in the block.

As a Croatian, it’d be easy to compare him to Drazen Petrovic (although I’d end up screaming and punching a sizable hole in my wall) or Toni Kukoc, but what sets Saric apart from these guys is his basketball IQ and overall understanding of the game. He rarely makes dumb decisions, and that counts for his shooting as well. His set shot ranks among the best in the class. He'll be a decent professional if picks up a little speed off the ball.
