Scouting Report 1.0 — 04.29.2014 (Andrew Lindmeier)
T.J. Warren is one of the most interesting draft prospects this year, in my opinion. The guy is full of talent, and really has a number of strengths on the basketball court. He can hit shots from anywhere on the floor, although he seems to be best from about 15-17 feet. One way or another, Warren seems to be able to find a way to score the ball, and as a sophomore last season he led the ACC in scoring at 24.8 PPG, while shooting over 50% from the field.
In addition to his natural scoring ability, Warren |
is very strong on the boards on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. He seems to possess the natural instinct to be in the right position to grab rebounds, and he also has a great work ethic and puts forth tremendous effort night in and night out. Warren is also surprisingly good at handling the ball, which bodes well for his future as a potential NBA starter.
The biggest weakness, if you want to call it one, that Warren has is his lack of a true position. |
He’s not as athletic as many NBA small forwards, and isn’t really a shooting guard. While we’ve seen guys who lack a true position struggle in the NBA before, I think Warren has the talent and natural scoring ability to figure out a way to be a very productive NBA player. If I’m an NBA GM, I wouldn’t mind Warren coming off my bench at all next year, and I think he has the potential to be a viable starter in the NBA down the road.
